Here is a quote that shows how women are needed in a warren.

"And we have no does-not one- and no does means no kittens and in a few years no warren." (Pg. 187)

Here is another quote that shows that the does know what their jobs in the warren are.

"Shall we mate with whom we chose and dig our own burrows and bear our litters alive?" (pg 330).

The role of women in Watership Down was to work and breed in the colony. Hazel-rah decided the colony needed does to do the digging and breed to expand the colony. Does were so important to the colony that they risked their lives to get does safely back to the colony.

The role of women in the warren was the most importent part, they were the future of the warren, as it says in Olivia's quote, but they did not have a lot of jobs, all they did was have and raise the kits and dig holes in the warren, they didn't go on scouting/raiding partys, etc. But they were necessary for the warren's survival.
