Welcome!

Welcome 10 Honors students! This site will be a fun and exciting way for us to discuss topics, ask questions, and communicate! For our trial discussion question, let's just discuss books that we have enjoyed reading. Each student should respond at least twice to various comments. Let's begin...one of my favorite books is one called The Drowning People by Richard Mason. It begins at the end...with the narrator confessing to murder. He then goes back and tells the his story from the beginning. It is fascinating! Although you know he is the killer, you are still shocked by many other events that lead to his crime. Let me know about your favorites and respond to me about mine!

Hi this is Lyndsey Schley.

Sounds interesting.

One of my favorite books is The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer. It's about a kid named Matt, who grows up in a land called Opium. It's between Mexico and the United States. It was created as a sort of border security and to grow, as the name suggests, opium. Matt is a clone of the owner of the land, the illustrious Drug cartel El Patron. During the book, he struggles with the repercussions of being a clone, both spiritually and emotionally. It's excellent, and I've made most of my friends read it.

Sam Anzaldi...

Most people have probably read this book, but my favorite books are the Twilight series by Stephanie Myers. I just recently read the last one, Breaking Dawn, and it was amazing! As you probably know, it is a story about a human falling in love with a vampire. Breaking Dawn did a really fine job of summing up the series. That book kept me up really late at night because I just did not want to put it down!

Olivia DeMeio

My favorite books are also the Twilight series. I am currently reading the fourth one Breaking Dawn. I think it is really cool for a vampire and a human to have a relationship. I also like how the book is very diverse. There is always some way the author suprises you. If I'm not doing homework I am trying to finish the book. You never lose interest. I can't wait to read the end!

Lyndsey! I love that book!
Sam- I loved Breaking Dawn. I've heard of a lot of people who weren't satisfied with it, but I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who thought it wrapped up the series well.

I loved the Maximum Ride series, by James Patterson, which I read over the summer. These books are about six children who are products of genetic experiments- they are 98 percent human, 2 percent avian. They have lighter bones, faster heart rates, and different temperatures from humans, but best of all: they have wings. These kids had escaped from the "School" where they had lived most of their lives under intense observation and experimentation by scientists. The scientists wanted them back, so they're being hunted by another hybrid, Erasers: part human, part wolf. They're fun books, especially if you love adventure.

One of my favorite books I have ever read was one of the two I bought last year during our class trip to Borders. The book is called Just Listen by Sarah Dessen. The book is about a girl named Annabel who lost her best friend and whose sister has an eating disroder. She decides to stay isolated from everyone. She then meets Owen who is obsessed with listening to music and always tells the truth. Owen shows her hwo to listen to what her mind is telling her to do and to speak her mind. She soon reveals to many people, and her former best friend Sophie, wehat happened to her the night her and Sophie stopped being friends. I won't tell you the end so that if you ever read the book, the ending won't be spoiled. I recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

One book i enjoyed was one i red 2 years ago or less. The book was called Among the Brave by Mergaret Peterson Haddix. The book was about a time were any third child was forbidden because the population as becoming to high. The reason i enjoyed it was because it seems to be realistic because the population has been increasing each year. Also it is realistic because it relates to China because they cant have more then two children. Also i liked that throughout the book it had many different characters with the same problem but they were in different places. Thats why Among the Brave was one of my favorite books.

Hey, this is LeAnn Brown.

I have quite a few favorite books, including the Twilight Series, but I'm going to try and be original. So, I read Crank a while ago. It's about a girl who gets caught up with the wrong guy when she leaves home to spend time with her dad. The boy she meets gets her addicted to "the monster," which is meth. The book is about how she quickly gets addicted and the changes it makes to her. She even changed the name she went by, and did many things she would never normally do. It was a great book, and had a wonderful ending. I suggest it to all of you.

My favorite book is Prep by Curtis Sittenfield. The book is about Lee, a girl from Indiana who goes to boarding school in Boston. Most of the students are wealthy, and their parents paid for their schooling. Lee is on scholarship, so has trouble fitting in with all of the rich kids. I read the book in less than a week, and that says a lot because I'm not a fan of reading. Prep is a really good book that every teenager can relate to.

I have many favorite books but my two summer favorites were The Host and Breaking Dawn. They are both by Stephinie Meyer who is one of my favorite authors besides J.K Rowling of course. The Host was about spirts who took over the human body to have total control. Most humans succumb because its force is hard to fight. The main character in The Host remains present when she is taken over. It sounds kinda lame when you're trying to explain it but trust me, it's amazing. I also really enjoyed Life as we Knew It. The book is about a comet hitting the moon which knocked it closer to Earth. In effect, the climate, the tides, and many other aspects of normal life were drastically changed. I really like the book because it was very interesting to read about how just a small movement of the moon could make such a large impact!

Hey everybody its Christie! My favorite book is called Just Listen by Susan Dressen. It is about a girl, Annabel, who has two older sisters and they all model for a large portion of thier teen years. One of her sisters has an eating disorder. She also lost her best friend, Sophie, when they got in a big fight and eventually stop being friends. Later on in the book she meets a boy named Owen who most people are afraid of. Owen loves listening to music. He convinces Annabel to listen to her thoughts an her mind. This is such a good book and if you read it you wont even realize you're reading a 400 page book! It is so good and highly I recomend it!

Well I kind of figured that a lot of people would LOVE the same series of books that I do!

Sam, Olivia, Emily: I would have to agree that the Twilight series is pretty amazing! They are very well written.

No surprise I’m sure to many that my favorite books are also the Twilight series written by Stephenie Meyer. I am currently reading the fourth one Breaking Dawn. So far I really love it! I’m almost done but haven’t found the time to finish it yet but I will soon. What I like most about these books is that they are not just another vampire romance. Stephenie did a very nice job writing these books. I would recommend this series to anyone!

The book i chose to talk about is the Uglies. Its a book about a world far in the future. With perfect people and uglie people. To be perfect you must undergoe a surgery at the age of 16. The problem is the surgery dumbs you down so as not to fight against the leaders of the world. But there are escapees who flee to a secret societys of Uglies where the truth is learned about the surgery. That is what the main character in the story does she flees to a secret Uglie hideout. Everything really gos ok until they are found. And then, the climax of the book happens right at the end (i wont say what you have to read it). Interesting book im yet to read the 2nd and 3rd book in the trilogy though.

Hey,
My favorite book is called A Piece of Cake. This book is a memoir. The author is Cupcake Brown. Cupcake Brown is actually not the author "real" name. The story explains it in more detail. The main plot of the story is about a girl who has lived with many different families because she is a fostor child. During the story she overcomes many things such as drug abuse. Throughout the story she faces many challenges such as gang fight, prostitution, and sexual abuse. I really enjoy this story and recommend it to anyone.

Just like a lot of other people, my favorite book is Twilight. I love reading that series! I did not want to put that book down! I still have to finish New Moon though! I didn't expect a book with a vampire to be so good! Normally, I'm not into those types of books. This series really surprised me!

Hello. This is Lea Smith.

One of my favorite books to read was "Chasing Vermeer" by Blue Balliett. I read it in middle school. It was a very easy book to read but it was very engaging. Its a mystery about a missing painting when two kids take it upon themselves to find the painting. It was really interesting because every chapter had an illustration that acted as a clue to solving the mystery. There was littel puzzles with in the pictue like locating the tangrams and the frog in each one. Another engaging factor was the secret messges through out the book that you had to decode. it really added to the the feel of the mystery.

Sam, Olivia, Audrey, Emily: Twilight is definitely great. I know it's a bit weird for a guy to like it...but it's just a great book! In each book of the series there's a ton of character devolopment, along with some great suspense, action, and of course, romance. I also enjoyed Breaking Dawn, and was thrilled that it ended happily. Another series I'm really getting into is the Bourne series by Robert Ludlum. For anyone who doesn't know, all the movies (Identity, Supremacy, Ultimatum) were based on these books. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to finish the Identity when I had borrowed it, but I'm making my way through the Supremacy and it's simply amazing, in my opinion. It's high-level adult literature, so it's incredibly well-written. Ludlum's ability to depict scenery, as well as action sequences, is just staggering. The plot moves at a breakneck pace, in addition to twisting and turning all over the place, making the novel extremely hard to put down.
I'm a fan of the movies, and other fans will agree that the novels are completely different from the films, but I still enjoy both thouroughly.Seriously, if you're into suspense or action, check it out. By the way, it says "Miss Terri" because I had to use my Mom's account. Oh well....

My favorite book is "LAMB" by Christopher Moore. I read this book the summer before high school. It is about Biff who in the story is best friends with Jesus, but Biff calls him Josh. The story chronicles the "missing years" and tells of stories of Biff and Jesus traveling, etc. The story starts off Biff in the present at a hotel with Raziel a angel Biff is there to write down a gospel book. The book is really funny, but some of it is inappropriate humor. I especially liked the character Biff.

One of my favorite books that I read every summer is Inkheart by Cornelia Funk! The book is about a girl named Meggie and her father Mo. One night a stranger appears at their house and sends Meggie's whole life upside down. She soon finds out that her father can read charicters out of books and as fate would have it Mo one night reads an evil rule named Capricorn out of a book called Inkheart! Now Meggie and Mo are on the run. My favorite part of the book though are the quotes at the beginning of each chapter. The author has an amazing choice in classics and I never get bored reading them!

One of my absolute favorite books is called, The five People you Meet in Heaven, by Mitch Albom. I'm sure a lot of you have read it or seen the movie. It begins by this man dying and going to heaven. Here he meets five people that he came across during his lifetime, even if it was for a brief moment. The story of the book is that even the people that you think are insignificant, you can have a major impact on their life. The main character relizes this in heaven. I highly suggest this book; even the movie is great!

Alan; Among the Brave sounds like an interesting book. I enjoy the type of book that can relate to current issues in a fiction format. I also like many characters in a story, it makes for an interesting and thought prevoking read.

I also am interested in the twilight series, my only question is...Are they more of a "Girl" book or is it directed at everybody??

Unknown said...

Christie i read that book also and i loved it. I thought it was really good and when i was reading it i didnt realize it was 400 pages. I wish the story would have kept going.

Hey this is Amanda Calvin!

One of my favorite books is Scribbler Of Dreams. It's about a girl named Kaitlin Malone. Her family and the Crutchfeilds have grudges against eachother. She ends up going to a school that the Crutchfeilds own because her Dad was acused of murder of Mr. Malone. She has to change her last name.
Kaitlin keeps a diary and she writes poems in it. But then she falls in love for Bram Crutchfeild.

Unknown said...

It's Amanda Calvin

Maria, I love Inkheart! It's a very well written book and it never leaves you bored!

Emily, The twilight series is also one of my favorites. Though Breaking Dawn was a bit of a disapointment, there wasn't as much action as I anticapated.

Unknown said...

I didn't realize that so many people had the same favorite book as me!

Taylor- That book sounds super good. I think I will read that one next. I remember hearing about it, but I never got the chance to read it.

Leann- I totally forgot about that book! I read it and it was pretty interesting the way it was set up. I will have to remember to read the rest of the series.

and Chris- We have that book at our house and I've been thinking about reading it. It is really long, so I am glad that someone thought it was good. I might actually read it now.

Unknown said...

I think those twilight books sound interesting. I normally like the kind of books with vampires but i like how there are normal people in the book interacting with the vampire.

Unknown said...

Twilight people: I know that everyone is madly in love with Twilight, but I'm apprehensive about reading a book about vampires. Everyone loves them though, so maybe I'll try it out.

Haley and Christie: Both of you told me last year that I could borrow Just Listen, but I still haven't read it! It sounds really good though, and last year you guys were obsessed, so I'm sur I'll like it.

Unknown said...

Brian i think your book sounds interesting also. I like books that take place in the future but what i really think is cool is the part about the "uglies" fighting back to stop the whole surgery thing. I would love to read it.

I love how obsessed everyone is with the Twilight series. It makes me smile.

LeAnn: I've heard about Crank but I never really knew what it was about. It sounds really amazing so I think I might put it on my list of books to read.

Brian: (not Brain Audrey) I really love Uglies and its sequels. They're really amazing and makes you think about what's really going to happen in the future when we obtain some of that kind of tecnology.

Peace =]

Hi everyone, this is Greg Lenzo using his Mom's gmail! Emily! Hey, the Maximum Ride series is just amazing! It's got action, suspense, and great character development. It's definitely one of my favorite series.
Lindsey- The House of the Scorpion is also one of my favorite books, and you're correct in saying that it's very emotional.
Maria! Inkheart is one of my favorite books as well! Have you read the sequel Inkspell? It's just as good, if not better, than the first! There was a third one that's supposed to come out, but I don't know when. I hope that wasn't just a rumor or something...

Unknown said...

Christie and Haley, I do want to read Just Listen if it was that good! I know you always talked out how good it was! It sounds realiy good! Especially if you couldn't put it down!

LeAnn, Crank sounds good too! It could be real! Isn't there a series that goes with that book? I think I've heard about them! They seem interesting and I really would like to read it! Maybe I'll get it!

(In case it doesn't show up, this is Emily G)
Brian- I loved Uglies. It was really interesting to see our society in the future, I guess. Did you know there's a fourth book? "Extras" It's actually about a different character, but it has a whole new interesting story.
It makes me laugh to see how everyone commented on Twilight, even if they haven't read them... but I'm obsessed too, so I guess I shouldn't laugh too hard.
Haley and Christie- Just Listen sounds like a pretty good book. I'll have to read it!
Maria and Greg- I love Inkheart and Inkspell! It's ironic that we're kind of reading the very book that Capricorn came out of and everything. They're amazing books for fantasy lovers.
Lyndsey and Greg- I loved House of the Scorpion, but I don't remember it at all! I'll definately need to read it again!

Sam, Olivia, Emily, Audrey, Chris, and whoever else mentioned the Twilight Series and Breaking Dawn - I can't wait to start reading Breaking Dawn! I had to hold myself back so I could finish my summer reading, but now there's nothing stopping me. I've heard it's an awesome book. Don't give anything away to me, I'll be really angry!

Haley and Christie - I LOVE Sarah Dessen's book The Truth About Forever. I really should read Just Listen, it sounds good. And I think Sarah Dessen is a great author. I need to pick up Just Listen on my next trip to Borders.

Emily: Your book sounds really interesting. It kind of reminds me of a book we had for that book fair thing in 8th grade, where we read all those books then tested on them. I dont remember what the book was called, but it was about a boy who has to make it to eden and he is human while others are modified. He takes that long journey to get to the Eden place. It just reminded me of that.

Stephanie: Your book sounds like a really interesting story. I think the stories of how people over come those struggles are really interesting.

Taylor: Ive never heard of the movie or the book. I think im going to search it out now. It sounds really cool.
